A newly established private practice based in beautiful East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory is looking for a paediatric speech pathologist! This is not 'just a job' but an opportunity to live and work; alongside Yolngu and Anindilyakwa cultures, amongst beautiful landscapes and generally get away from the fast paced hustle and bustle. 

Melaleuca Therapies provides mobile Speech Pathology services across the Gove Peninsula, Groote Eylandt, and Elcho Island with plans to expand across the East Arnhem region and develop a compassionate and collaborative multidisciplinary team. We live and work on Yolngu country, a very special part of the world; geographically beautiful and community centered. There will be lots of opportunity for travel to remote communities in the region and time to explore.

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Provide high quality, culturally sensitive and effective Speech Pathology services with a particular focus on paediatrics; some adult clinical casework may also feature.
  2. Prepare professional reports in a timely manner for a range of service providers e.g. schools, allied health and medical practitioners, families, NDIS etc.
  3. Ensure clinical accountability through appropriate use of information systems and keeping accurate data and statistics.
  4. Maintain professional knowledge and skills through active participation in supervision with the Director and other available professional development.
  5. Foster a positive workplace culture through appropriate and collaborative workplace behaviour.
  6. Adhere to all work, health and safety practices and Melaleuca Therapies policies and procedures.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Registered with Speech Pathology Australia or equivalent as a practicing Speech Pathologist.
  2. Demonstrated relevant clinical experience and/ or strong interest working with paediatrics 0-18 years across child development, speech, language including augmentative and alternative communication, and mealtime management.
  3. Proven ability to plan, prioritise and deliver high volume complex Speech Pathology workload in a regularly changing work environment.
  4. Demonstrated flexibility, high level problem solving and resilience with the ability to work effectively in remote communities and live in a small community.
  5. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, exceptional communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills with a strong commitment to professional growth and development.
  6. Demonstrated ability working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds including First Nations people.
  7. Willingness to travel to remote communities by light plane or four-wheel drive vehicle and, where required, stay on community for short periods of time.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  1. Post-graduate qualifications in child development or other relevant fields
  2. Experience working in remote communities and culturally diverse contexts
  3. Experience working with people with disabilities
  4. Interested in transdisciplinary work
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of neurodiversity affirming therapy models
  6. Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Appointment Factors:

  • Presentation of COIVD 19 vaccination certificate
  • Recognised tertiary degree in Speech Pathology
  • Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal History Check
  • Ability to obtain a Working with Children’s Clearance
  • Current manual driver’s license
